With many families quarantined at home during the Covid19 crisis, domestic violence is taking new highs around the world. Be it verbal abuse, or physical attack, women are struggling with more than one fight at home. Expectations, pressure, and workload have increased the pressure women face at home in lockdown.
As Amanda Taub writes in her article for the NewYork Times; “Add another public health crisis to the toll of the new coronavirus: Mounting data suggests that domestic abuse is acting like an opportunistic infection, flourishing in the conditions created by the pandemic.”
“Peace is not just the absence of war. Many women under lockdown for #COVID19 face violence where they should be safest: in their own homes.
Today I appeal for peace in homes around the world.
I urge all governments to put women’s safety first as they respond to the pandemic.”
Secretary General for the United Nations, António Guterres urged the world on Twitter.
In such a situation, the Rocket Biryani Project requests the men and women out there to come out as a support system for the women in their lives at home. Share the domestic workload with your wife, mother, sister, and daughter.
